History
IZ stands for "footprint" in the Kazakh language. IZ was originally formed by Mamur, a Kazakh singer coming from Qitai, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It was then developed into a band with at most five members. Mamur began to play dombra from childhood, then he studied playing guitar, mandolin, piano, Jew's harp (kouxian), and other instruments. He came to Beijing in July, 2002.
The music of IZ was partly transcribed from traditional Kazakh folk songs, with others written and arranged by the group's members.
