CNE interviews Michael Pettis

Michael Pettis is the owner of D-22, a new performance venue in Beijing dedicated to new and experimental music in the local scene. Michael used to run a club in New York in the early 1980s that specialized in experimental and underground music — regulars included Sonic Youth, John Zorn, Elliott Sharp, Swans, and others. On May 5, 2006, Michael opened his “wholly musician-oriented music club in Beijing that will focus on similar music, with the goal of developing the Beijing music scene, promoting the best local artists in China and abroad, and introducing them to leading musicians from New York and elsewhere.” Michael is also Associate Professor of Economics at Peking University.
